ENEA, Paul Scherrer Institut and Politecnico di Torino were awarded the Key innovator prize by the ‘Innovation Radar’ of the European Commission for developing an innovation studied and tested as part of the European project Waste2Watts.

An highly efficient clean-up process for biogas contaminants removal, it was developed in the ENEA Laboratory “Energy Storage, Batteries and Technologies for Production and Use of Hydrogen” of the Energy Technologies and Renewable Sources Department.

Innovation Radar is an initiative launched by the European Commission to identify high-potential innovations.

The Waste2Watts project aims at developing an advanced solution to convert biogas from a wide variety of waste raw materials into power and heat using solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), to be exploited directly at the biogas production site. One of its key objectives concerns the development and testing of technologies.
