We are pleased to announce the upcoming BPAI 2026 – International School on Biophotonics and Artificial Intelligence, a international initiative dedicated to advanced, interdisciplinary study at the critical nexus of two of the most rapidly evolving fields in modern science.

Why Biophotonics and AI? The frontier of scientific discovery is increasingly defined by the ability to process and understand vast amounts of data. Biophotonics – the study of light interaction with biological tissues through advanced imaging and sensing techniques – generates immense and complex datasets. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer merely a complementary tool; it has emerged as the essential instrument for transforming this flood of biological data into actionable insights, driving innovation in research and clinical applications. AI algorithms, particularly Deep Learning and Machine Learning models, are paramount for:

  • Accelerating Image Analysis: Rapidly processing high-resolution biological images to identify subtle cellular and tissue anomalies.
  • Enhancing Diagnostics: Developing robust predictive models for earlier and more accurate disease detection.
  • Extracting Hidden Patterns: Uncovering intricate biological phenomena often invisible to the human eye or traditional statistical methods.

An Intertwined and Forward-Looking Approach – The distinctive strength of the BPAI School lies in its commitment to the deeply intertwined relationship between these two disciplines. Our program goes beyond teaching Biophotonics and AI as separate subjects; it aims to educate researchers, students, and professionals to become truly “bilingual” in both light-based sensing and computational logic. The intensive curriculum is structured to foster synergy, where Biophotonics provides the high-quality, information-rich data, and AI furnishes the power to interpret it effectively. This integrated training features cutting-edge lectures, hands-on laboratories, and a competitive Datathon focused on real-world challenges in biomedical data analysis.

BPAI 2026: Introducing New Scientific Pillars – The 2026 edition of the BPAI School significantly strengthens its position as a leading training program by introducing a fully updated vision, directly aligned with the most advanced international research trends in AI. This year’s program proudly features dedicated modules on:

  • Generative Models (GANs, Diffusion Models): Exploring the latest in generative AI for data augmentation, biomedical image generation, and realistic synthesis of biological structures.
  • Large Language Models (LLMs): A comprehensive module covering Transformer architectures, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, and their transformative applications in biophotonics, clinical research, and scientific innovation.
  • Explainable AI (XAI): explainability remains a central theme, particularly crucial for trust and adoption in medical and biological contexts.
  • Reinforcement Learning: The module will cover policy gradients, deep Q-learning, and their emerging applications.
  • Quantum Machine Learning (QML): Introducing lectures on quantum-enhanced learning, discussing future perspectives of QML in biophotonics and biomedical imaging.
  • Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs): Delving into hybrid neural models that integrate fundamental physical laws, with practical applications in optical imaging, PDE analysis, fluid dynamics, and advanced modeling of complex biomedical systems.

By integrating these cutting-edge topics, BPAI 2026 solidifies its reputation as one of the most comprehensive and interdisciplinary schools in the field, preparing participants to lead the next wave of scientific discovery at the forefront of Biophotonics and Artificial Intelligence.
