In a solemn and well-attended ceremony, Link Campus University conferred the Honorary Doctorate in Human Sciences for Innovation, Inclusion, and Sustainability upon Professor Teodoro Valente, current President of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), in recognition of his outstanding contribution to bridging scientific research, technological development, and social responsibility.
A Bridge Between Science and Society
The decision to award Valente this prestigious academic honor reflects the increasingly interdisciplinary approach of both humanistic and scientific research. His work has embodied the ideal of science open to dialogue with society, attentive to themes such as ecological transition, industrial sustainability, and inclusive education.
“With this honorary doctorate,” stated the Rector of Link Campus University, “we celebrate a human and scientific journey that has successfully combined academic excellence with institutional impact, all in service of the common good.”
Teodoro Valente is a Full Professor of Materials Science and Technology at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and a leading figure in Italian research in the fields of aerospace, advanced materials, and innovative industrial processes. He is a distinguished member of the International Advisory Board of the Miami Scientific Italian Community.
Since 2023, he has served as President of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), where he has promoted a systemic vision of national space policies, integrating scientific, technological, and economic dimensions. Previously, he directed the Institute for Polymers, Composites, and Biomaterials at the National Research Council (CNR) and held the position of Pro-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Technology Transfer at La Sapienza.
He is the author of over 200 scientific publications in international journals, co-inventor of three international patents, and coordinator of numerous European and industrial research projects.
The conferment of the Honorary Doctorate is part of Link Campus University’s activities aimed at honoring individuals who contribute to the advancement of knowledge and institutional practices in the context of contemporary complexity. This recognition is, therefore, not only a tribute to a brilliant career but also to a vision of a sustainable, just, and shared future.
“I accept this recognition,” Valente remarked during his speech, “as an invitation to continue building bridges between disciplines, generations, and perspectives. Because research is never an end in itself but a tool to shape a better world.”
