ACN-ASI: Cyber Collaboration Launched in the Space and Aerospace Sector

Training, Information Sharing, and Communication Campaigns Among Key Topics Discussed

Stronger coordination and joint cybersecurity initiatives were the main topics of today’s meeting between Bruno Frattasi, Director General of ACN (Italy’s National Cybersecurity Agency), and Teodoro Valente, President of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), held at ACN’s headquarters.

The dialogue aimed to enhance cooperation between the two agencies in strengthening cybersecurity and cyber resilience within the space and aerospace sectors – areas whose rapid growth brings with it critical challenges, such as the security of devices, systems, and satellite communications.

“Establishing the foundation for this upcoming agreement with ASI,” commented Director Bruno Frattasi after the meeting, “marks another important step in the Agency’s broader policy of institutional coordination and cohesion, in line with our mission. Managing horizontal coordination at the national level must also be matched by equal attention to the vertical dimension – that is, engagement with European institutions,” Frattasi added. “In this regard, I would like to highlight that our Agency is currently hosting the coordination meeting of the European Cybersecurity Competence Center, the EU body responsible for developing the cybersecurity industry in Europe, in our role as the national competence center.”

“Today’s meeting with ACN is focused on reinforcing institutional synergies and collaboration at a time when space and cybersecurity,” emphasized ASI President Teodoro Valente, “are now inseparable. This is especially relevant in light of the recent approval of the new Space Law. Cybersecurity has both a horizontal dimension and highly specialized vertical tracks, with space being one of the most significant vertical domains. Sharing best practices, methodologies, and joint actions with ACN is therefore a top priority for ASI.”

The agreement between the two agencies will promote the development and sharing of cybersecurity best practices, including zero trust methodologies and post-quantum cryptography – particularly in light of the specific responsibilities granted to ACN under Law 90/2024, which established the National Cryptography Center. In addition, joint efforts will be made in information sharing, threat intelligence, data and infrastructure protection, staff training, and public communication campaigns.
