Dr. Giulio Palummieri is a Research Associate at the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI), University of Miami. His research focuses on the development of innovative combinations of DIANAs (Drug-Integrating Amphiphilic Nanomaterial Assemblies) and mesenchymal stem cells, with the goal of improving immunomodulatory approaches in pancreatic islet transplantation for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
By integrating nanotechnology, biomaterials, and regenerative medicine, his work aims to overcome key challenges in transplantation immunology and to facilitate the translation of preclinical findings into future therapeutic applications.
This interdisciplinary approach allows for the exploration of novel delivery systems and cell-based therapies designed to promote long-term graft survival and restore immune tolerance.
He holds a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, with a specialization in cells, tissues, and biotechnologies.
