International Symposium “Italy in Transit”

VIII Symposium February 9-10, 2024

Organized by the FAU Italian Studies Program, in collaboration with the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute (New York) and the FAU Initiative for the Study of the Americas, under the patronage of the Consulate General of Italy in Miami.

Guests are invited to share their research about Italy seen as a fluid space where identities cross and new encounters are shaped. It is a symposium (from syn: together) because speakers commit to the whole program and listen to each other to compare ideas. Everyone gets richer from a synchronic, sympathetic, synergetic confrontation.

One of the highlights of the VIII International Symposium is Claudio Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo” in concert, the 1607 opus that sculpted the very essence of opera, presented in a novel immersive way, thanks to new digital tools. This is fruit of an unprecedented collaboration amongst Florida Atlantic University, the Conservatorio Giacomo Puccini – La Spezia, the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini Firenze. February 10, 2024 7:00 PM (tickets are FREE for “Italy in Transit” participants and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Boca Raton at FAU members).
