Novel luminescent materials, advanced photophysical mechanisms, and applications in optoelectronics, sensing, and biomedicine will be the focus of the international workshop “TADF and RTP Materials: From Photophysics to Applications – Optoelectronic Devices, Sensors and Biomedicine,” scheduled from August 31 to September 2, 2026, at the Institute of Nanotechnology of the National Research Council (CNR-Nanotec) in Lecce.
The initiative will bring together researchers from Italy, France, Poland, and Japan, providing an international platform for discussion on materials based on Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence (TADF) and Room-Temperature Phosphorescence (RTP). Although based on different photophysical mechanisms, both strategies enable the development of luminescent systems characterized by longer-lived emissions compared to conventional fluorescence, offering exciting prospects for designing functional materials and advanced devices. The properties of these systems can be applied to the development of OLEDs and optoelectronic devices, sensors, photonic systems, and biomedical technologies.
The workshop will address these topics through an interdisciplinary approach, fostering a dialogue between molecular design and synthesis, photophysics, spectroscopy, electrochemistry, self-assembly, and materials processing. The participation of researchers from four countries will create a supportive environment for sharing results, methodologies, and perspectives, helping to strengthen active collaborations and build new scientific connections.
Special attention will be dedicated to early-career researchers, featuring an open seminar, presentations by PhD students and young scientists, and activities within the CNR-Nanotec laboratories. These sessions will offer training and direct engagement with field specialists, promoting the exchange of skills and the integration of young researchers into an international scientific network.
The concluding round-table discussion will focus on identifying key scientific priorities and discussing new collaborative opportunities, including those related to national and international funding. The goal is to establish the conditions to transform scientific dialogue into new partnerships, project ideas, and shared research activities, thereby strengthening connections between groups and institutions and promoting joint initiatives.
The workshop aligns with CNR-Nanotec’s strategy for internationalization and the advancement of expertise, reinforcing its role as a meeting ground for fundamental research, interdisciplinarity, and innovation. The initiative aims to bridge knowledge, education, and project design, contributing to the development of novel luminescent materials and their translation into solutions for optoelectronics, sensing, photonics, and biomedicine.
