Dora Pugliese joins the Scientific Community of the Miami Scientific Italian Community

Dora Pugliese is currently a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at the University of Miami, where she conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of structural engineering, architectural conservation, and sustainable construction.

She holds a PhD in Structures and Restoration of Architecture and Cultural Heritage from the University of Florence, where her research focused on innovative and sustainable solutions for the seismic and energy upgrading of historic masonry buildings. Her work combines historic preservation, structural engineering, materials science, and building physics, with particular attention to the development and experimental characterization of innovative composite materials for improving the seismic resilience, energy performance, and long-term sustainability of existing masonry buildings.

Her research has resulted in publications in international scientific journals and presentations at major conferences in the fields of structural engineering, masonry, composite materials, and sustainable construction.

Among her recent research activities is the development of biodegradable and recyclable composite materials incorporating cork aggregates, as well as innovative composites materials with thermal insulation properties for the seismic and energy upgrade of masonry buildings.

A licensed architect in Italy, Dora has also gained academic and professional experience in both Italy and the United States, contributing to teaching and research activities in structural design, seismic assessment, restoration, and the rehabilitation of existing buildings.
