Regina Finocchiaro joins the Scientific Community of the Miami Scientific Italian Community

Regina Finocchiaro is currently a PhD Researcher in Engineering Sciences at the University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara, with a research focus on “Engineering for Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructures,” and a Visiting Researcher at the University of Miami, where she conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of structural engineering, infrastructure resilience, and the conservation and management of existing buildings and infrastructure.

Her doctoral research focuses on methods for the diagnosis, monitoring, and rehabilitation of historic built assets, with particular attention to resilience and risk-informed decision-making. Her research interests include seismic assessment and improvement of cultural heritage, multi-hazard risk, infrastructure safety, digital forensic engineering, and the use of digital methods to support engineering decisions.

Alongside her academic activities, Regina has developed extensive professional experience since 2018 in structural and geotechnical design, seismic strengthening, post-earthquake reconstruction, infrastructure inspection, monitoring strategies, and the rehabilitation of masonry and reinforced-concrete buildings. Her university activities also include teaching support in masonry structures and research on the Italian bridge safety framework, particularly the interpretation of condition data and their application to engineering assessment and decision-making.

Her interdisciplinary approach combines engineering judgement, numerical modelling, perception and Situation Awareness, multi-hazard analysis, and scientific communication. Her academic background also includes experimental research in seismic engineering and soil liquefaction conducted at NORSAR in Norway.

Among her distinctions, Regina received the First Prize at the Visionaria – Honda Italy Hackathon in 2022 and the ANCE Study Award in 2021, recognizing her experimental Master’s thesis research conducted abroad.
