An entire morning dedicated to exploring the universe, PHYSICS FUN 2026 transformed the Department of Physics at the University of Miami into a vibrant hub of ideas, experiments, and scientific discovery.
From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., more than 300 children, teens, and adults took part in a dynamic program featuring hands-on activity tables, interactive demonstrations, and engaging planetarium shows offered every 30 minutes. This year’s edition, focused on astronomy and astrophysics, guided visitors on a journey through stars, galaxies, and cosmic phenomena – making complex concepts accessible through play and direct experience.
Spinning gyroscopes, experiments with light and mirrors, rockets, telescopes, and immersive activities sparked curiosity in younger participants while captivating adult audiences, reinforcing the importance of science outreach as a meaningful connection between the university and the broader community.
The event was held under the leadership of Physics Department Chair Massimiliano Galeazzi, with contributions and coordination by Nico Cappelluti and Alberto Magaraggia, members of the Miami Scientific Italian Community.
The dedication of faculty, staff, and graduate students from the University of Miami Department of Physics, together with the support of the University of Miami College of Arts & Sciences, made possible an initiative that successfully combined scientific rigor, passion, and community spirit.
PHYSICS FUN continues to stand out as a signature outreach event, inspiring the next generation and demonstrating that when physics becomes hands-on, it becomes pure wonder.
