Professor Stefano Paolo Corgnati is currently serving as the Rector of the Politecnico di Torino.
Born in 1973 and graduated with honors in Mechanical Engineering and PhD in Energetics, he is Full Professor of Technical Environmental Physics at the Energy Department (TEBE research group) of the Politecnico di Torino. He teaches technical physics and buildings energy design and is the author of more than 450 scientific and technical publications on the topics of indoor environmental comfort and quality, high energy performance and zero energy buildings, building energy systems, and the effect of user behavior on building consumption, developed through collaborations with numerous foreign universities.
With reference to industry association activities, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Association on Air Conditioning AICARR from 2008 to 2013. In 2011 he was elected to the Board of Directors of REHVA (European Federation on Air Conditioning) with headquarters in Brussels and permanent dialogue activities with the European Commission for the development of policies and regulations, holding first the position of Vice-President, then from 2014 that of Treasurer and for the three-year period 2016- 2019 that of President.
He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of NODES Scarl, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the UNIVER Consortium, Vice President of the Centro Studi sul Federalismo Foundation of the Compagnia di San Paolo, member of the Board of Directors of the AMMA Foundation, and member of the Board of Directors of the Center for Circular Economy in Coffee (promoted by the Lavazza Foundation). He also serves as Vice President of the Torino Innovation Mile Promoting Committee, Vice President of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Città dell’Aerospazio (City of Aerospace), and member of the Scientific Committee of the Enel Foundation’s Centro Studi.
Previously a member of the Board of Directors of the Politecnico di Torino, he served as Vice Rector for Research under Rector Prof. Gilli. In 2018, he was confirmed in this role by Rector Prof. Saracco, with a change in responsibilities in 2021 to Internal Policies, and he also served as Head of the Employer-Side Delegation in union negotiations. Additionally, he coordinated the Interdepartmental Centers Committee, the Contracts-Agreements and Affiliated Entities Committee, and the Regulations Committee.
Related to academic initiatives, formerly on the Executive Committee of the Energy Centre and the Advisory Board of the China Centre, he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Energy Security and Transition Lab. Among Politecnico di Torino’s companies, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the LINKS Foundation (of Politecnico di Torino and Compagnia di San Paolo).
As part of International Energy Agency activities, he was Sub-Task Leader in projects studying factors influencing global energy consumption in buildings, including factors related to occupant actions.
During the national government led by President Mario Draghi, he was appointed as a member of the Expert Group of the Structure for Ecological Transition of Mobility and Infrastructure (STEMI) supporting the Ministry of Mobility and Sustainable Infrastructure.
In the field of public administration, from 2004 to 2010 he was Councillor with responsibility first for the environment and then for land protection and development in the Municipality of Livorno Ferraris (VC), where for two terms from 2013 to 2023 he was elected Mayor. Since 2013, he has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Piedmont ATO-2 Area Authority for the integrated management of water resources.
